A Message from Kaylee

Here is a message from Kaylee Anderson, one of the Youth Leaders. Here is what she has to say about Trek:

Trek!!! It's coming so soon! Almost a year ago when everything was beginning to be planned I thought that it would never come. Well here it is in less than a month. There are so many things that need to be done physically and spiritually. But don't panic, because you do still have a month. As we go through our last stretch of school and the beginning of summer up until Trek, we need to be thinking about who we are walking for and how we are going to make the  most of it. The person you decide to walk for will give you strength if you look and research the person. They can guide and help you and will be there with you on the Trek. Continue to read your scriptures and read the words given by the prophets of the last conference. I know that doing all of these things will bless your life and get you prepared for Trek. Also don't forget to start walking. As we are all taught, "If ye are prepared ye shall not fear." (D&C 38:30)

17 Miracles

"A Pioneer Film Like You’ve Never Seen Before

"As part of the Willie Handcart Company, Levi Savage (Jasen Wade) feared that leaving late in the season would lead to despair and death. What he came to find out is that for every tragedy, there is a multitude of miracles.
"Based on unbelievable actual events, and brought to you by filmmaker T.C. Christensen (Praise to the Man, The Work and the Glory), 17 Miracles will open your eyes to the stories of the Mormon Pioneers as you have never seen them before. Something extraordinary is about to happen."

Check out the trailer for this movie about the pioneer Levi Savage, and the trials of the pioneers, coming out June 3, 2011. For more info, check out www.17miracles.com

A Message from Keltson

Here is a message from Keltson Howell, one of the Youth Leaders. Here is what he has to say about Trek:

Hello! I am getting really excited for Trek, it is getting so close! Some people might be getting nervous with it almost here. You might be wondering things like, How hard is this going to be? Am I physically ready for this? What have I gotten myself into? True, we do need to make sure that we are physically strong, but we also need to have the spiritual strength to have faith in the Lord and know that after we have done all that we can, He will reach out to us and bless us for our obedience. I am so grateful that we have this great experience to learn about what our ancestors had to endure and grow closer to God in the process! This will be such a spiritually strengthening experience if we do our best to be prepared! Be strong and Never Give Up! Never Back Down! Never Lose Faith!

A Message from our Stake President

To our precious youth in the Sandy Midvalley Stake:

What a tremendous blessing it will be for you to participate in our youth conference this June. There has been much work and preparation made to ensure that you will have a tremendous trek experience. The spiritual experiences that you will have will be one of the highlights and strong foundations for your life.

Our last trek took place in 2007. Let me share with you a few of the testimonies that were recorded from our youth at that time:

A 16-year old boy wrote: “Part of the testimony I gained from the trek it to find out what the pioneers did for us. What made me feel the Spirit the most was the stories of some of the specific pioneers and what they did to keep each other alive - like the story of the 11-year old boy who sacrificed his life for his brother who was six years old.”

A 15-year old girl wrote: “Trek was an experience that I would never take back. It was difficult at times, but it gave me a great realization of how hard it must have been for the pioneers. Every time we thought we were close to the end you just saw more barren land. I just reminded myself the pioneers felt this way every day, except it was pouring rain or there was 5 feet of snow to tread through. Participating in the trek was a wonderful experience and I gained a wonderful testimony of the pioneers and how far they had to travel with horrible weather conditions and with family members dying. So often I take what I have for granted and don’t appreciate the great life I have, but trek reminded me of how incredibly blessed I am – with a shelter over my head, wonderful parents, and a family that provides me everything I need.”

I look forward to being with you as you have your own spiritual and testimony-strengthening experiences. I know that our Heavenly Father loves each of you and that in His infinite love for us he provides us these wonderful opportunities to be touched by His Holy Spirit to strengthen us to face our own Rocky Ridges of our lives.

With great love,

President Ken Moss

A Message from Natalie

Here is a message from Natalie Rudd, one of the Youth Leaders. Here is what she has to say about Trek:

Hey everyone! I am so excited to go on the trek and learn more about the pioneers and what they experienced to make them the amazing and inspirational people they are! I know if we fully prepare ourselves spiritually and physically then we can also have that experience of what it was like to be a pioneer.  Our testimonies that we are truly sons and daughters of God will be strengthened so much! I can't wait! :)
